Calls for phase out of toxic chemicals in medicals devices
Published 12 Nov 2015
Breast Cancer UK has joined a coalition of NGOs to co-sign a letter to Mrs Glenis Willmott, European Parliament Rapporteur for the EC Medical Device Regulation, asking her to support an amendment to the regulation calling for the phase out of toxic chemicals from medical devices if safer alternatives are available and technically feasible.
Currently, medical devices may contain toxic chemicals including endocrine disruptors such as BPA and phthalates, which may present a hazard to human health including an increased risk of breast cancer.
